Multi-Drop Driver Job Description: Edinburgh EH3
Staffing Service is actively recruiting reliable, safety-conscious Multi-Drop Drivers for an immediate start with a leading logistics and distribution client based in the heart of Edinburgh EH3. This is a fantastic opportunity for drivers who enjoy being out on the road, managing their own schedule, and providing an essential service to businesses and residents across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Our client is a well-established courier and distribution company with an excellent reputation for reliability and staff treatment. They require additional drivers to manage increased parcel volumes, particularly for next-day delivery services and retail replenishment routes. As a Multi-Drop Driver with Staffing Service, you'll benefit from a streamlined registration process, weekly pay (every Friday), and the support of a dedicated consultant who understands the local Edinburgh logistics market inside out. Whether you're looking for temporary work to bridge a gap, or a temp-to-perm opportunity that could lead to a permanent contract, this role offers genuine flexibility and career progression.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
- Safely and efficiently operate a company-provided or own van (subject to terms) to complete multi-drop delivery routes across Edinburgh EH3 and postcodes including EH1, EH2, EH4, EH6, EH7, and surrounding commuter towns.
- Plan and execute daily delivery schedules using handheld PDA devices or route planning apps, ensuring all parcels and goods are delivered within specified time windows and handling procedures are followed.
- Complete accurate paperwork and digital proof of delivery (POD) for every drop, managing customer signatures, failed delivery notes, and returns in accordance with company policy.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks (DEFECT reporting) and maintain basic van cleanliness, reporting any mechanical issues or accidents immediately to the depot manager and your Staffing Service consultant.
- Provide excellent customer service at the doorstep, representing the client and Staffing Service professionally. This may involve handling customer queries, assisting with heavy items (within manual handling guidelines), and resolving simple delivery issues.
- Adhere strictly to all road traffic laws, drivers' hours regulations (WTD), and client-specific safety protocols, including those related to secure load restraint and fuel card usage.

Frequently Asked Questions: Multi-Drop Driver Roles
Most roles involve driving a long-wheelbase (LWB) or standard panel van (e.g., Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter) up to 3.5 tonnes. Some clients may provide the vehicle fully insured and fuelled, while others operate on a 'van provided' or 'use your own van' basis with a generous allowance. This will be clearly specified during your interview and in the job contract. For roles requiring specific licences (like 7.5t), this will be advertised separately.
For candidates with all documents ready (licence, right to work, references), we can often facilitate a next-day or same-week start. The process involves a quick phone screening, submission of your documents via our secure portal, and a brief induction. Our guide on How to Hire a Temp Quickly explains the efficient system we use from the employer's perspective, which benefits you as a worker through speed.
Absolutely. Many of our clients use temporary assignments as a prolonged interview. If you prove to be reliable, efficient, and a good fit for their team, they frequently offer temp-to-perm (TTP) contracts. We actively promote this pathway and will advocate for you. In fact, understanding these strategic hiring pathways is key to modern recruitment, as explored in our article on Recruitment Outsourcing.
Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of agency work. We have clients who need weekend drivers, evening shift cover (for late retail deliveries), or part-time drivers for peak periods (e.g., 10 am - 2 pm). Be upfront with your consultant about your availability. We also have a wide range of other flexible roles, from Kitchen Porter positions to Event Staff work, allowing us to find the perfect fit for your schedule.
Pay: You are paid weekly via PAYE, every Friday, for all hours worked the previous week (Mon-Sun). Your payslip will show your hourly rate, total hours, tax/NI deductions, and accrued holiday pay. Holiday Pay: As a temporary worker, you are entitled to statutory holiday pay. This is accrued based on the hours you work and can either be paid as a roll-up addition to your hourly rate (12.07% uplift) or banked and paid out when you take actual leave. Your consultant will explain the specific system used by your assignment.
